The client was a large hospital in Hamburg, which comprehensively expanded its emergency power supply for the operating rooms to ensure that life-saving operations can continue without interruption even in the event of a power failure. As part of this project, Schiedel supplied the appropriate chimney systems and sound insulation concept for the new diesel-powered emergency generators.

Challenge

The biggest challenge was the extremely high sound insulation requirements. As absolute silence is essential in a hospital, the exhaust systems had to be designed in such a way that the noise from the powerful generators was reduced to a minimum. This special requirement called for precise planning and the use of state-of-the-art soundproofing technology in order not to disrupt hospital operations and to ensure the recovery of patients.

Solution

Schiedel supplied two 600 mm diameter ICS 5000 chimney systems, two free-standing chimneys and two combination silencers for the new diesel generators, which supply the operating rooms with energy even in the event of a power failure. The two ICS 5000 systems connect the emergency power generators with the 10.6 m high, free-standing chimneys, which were installed on a raised platform and thus reach a height of 16 m at the top. In order to meet the high sound insulation requirements in a hospital, a combination silencer was integrated into each chimney system. These effectively dampen both low-frequency and high-frequency noises, thus ensuring optimum noise reduction.

The Customer

To maximize patient safety, a large hospital in Hamburg, Germany, has significantly expanded its emergency power supply for operating rooms. The upgrade to more powerful diesel-powered generators ensures that life-saving surgeries can continue without interruption, even in emergencies. This improved energy capacity underscores the commitment to uninterrupted intensive care.
