From sketch to reality – A Garden Fireplace project.

A garden transformed.

Liz Davies, based on the south coast, had a garden project which had to overcome a certain amount of obstacles. One of the main issues was the lack of a focal point and a sloping garden. After selecting the Schiedel Garden Fireplace, which is formed from natural pumice, sourced from the Hekla Volcano in Iceland, she sketched a design using it as a focal point.

The brief was to transform the garden into an inviting and lush space for entertaining and relaxing. The Garden Fireplace was the focal point, on a large, newly terraced and paved patio. The fireplace was to sit in front of a generous bed of grasses, roses and lavender, providing a soft background. The fireplace was also framed in the view by a pergola covered in fragrant climbers. The scheme of the proposed garden was to include mixed building materials, from hardwood sleepers and red brick retaining walls and riven sandstone paving. The planting brief was to create a Mediterranean feel, so included olive and fig trees, alongside hot coloured flowers and fragrant herbs and climbers.

The project was delayed due to Covid, but the build was completed just after the Summer Bank Holiday, so just in time for some late summer sun and ideal for those crisp autumnal days and cold winter nights when the fireplace can be lit up to create a warm and cosy area. And then looking forward to the amazing summer we have ahead of us in 2021.

Words don’t do this justice, so the pictures below show how amazing the garden was made by using such a focal point.
